ACCRA Debuts New Shaft Line – ACCRA with AXIV Technology

Early Exclusive To Flagstick Magazine & GolfWRX.com, Ottawa, Ontario, January 23, 2007 - Three years ago, when their ACCRA brand shafts debuted at the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Classic, Dave Makarucha and Gawain Robertson, partners in their company, Premium Golf Management (PGMC), knew they were on to something great. Their concept had been simple when they struck a working agreement with United Sports Technologies and their parent company, Mamiya-OP - develop a premium golf shaft line strictly for high-end custom club fitters to ensure that their shafts would be properly fit.

Of course, the golf industry being as competitive as it is, it is always nice to achieve benchmarks that show you are heading in the right direction. One of those would be proving that they had a great product – what they felt was one of the best in the world. To get that feedback it could only come from one place – from the PGA Tour, where the best players in the world play.

They got their wish that May weekend outside of Dallas in 2004, when 15 shafts from their burgeoning line were put into play. From there says Robertson, “It just grew and grew, and grew.”

Robertson and Makarucha, actually based in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, say that in creating those initial product lines they did several things that ensured a successful launch. “The game was changing, especially with the ball, at that point,” says Robertson, a former PGA Professional. “With the ball spinning less and not flying as high we felt there was a demand for a shaft that would help provide a higher launch angle and lower spin. To do that while making sure the shafts still had feel and were fit correctly, as golfers ourselves, we felt it would appeal to other players.”

In keeping with the philosophy of responding to the market the pair says they continually listen to their dealers as well as their end customers for feedback. The result has been a number of new shaft options but none have been as revolutionary as what they will be offering for 2007.

“ACCRA dealers around the world requested a mid-launch shaft to complement the incredible results achieved by the current ACCRA line-up,” says Robertson. With club heads (specifically drivers) reaching an unprecedented level of Moment of Inertia, the profile of drivers has been shifting and a market has opened up for shafts to match.

Their response? Instead of just altering their current line-up to change the launch characteristics, they took it a step further to not only achieve the ball flight, but also to take their shafts to a higher level of feel. After a lengthy design process involving ACCRA/UST engineers and live player testing, they came up with the ACCRA with AXIV technology shafts.

Already in use by parent company Mamiya-OP in a “J-Spec” line of shafts (designed for the Asian market), AXIV Tetra-Axial (4 axis) weave is one of the most exotic materials used in the production of golf shafts today. It is a proprietary and exclusive material to Mamiya-OP. The new line takes the best of AXIV technology and blends it with the advancements of the ACCRA line to create a product perfectly suited to the full scope of worldwide golfers.

The AXIV Open Weave material allows engineers to weave four different modulus carbon fibres in four different directions in one material. That has a two-fold advantage for the new shafts, according to the company - extra feel and greater strength. The grip section of the shaft is very susceptible to deformation so it normally has to be very strong. Most companies achieve this by adding extra plies of graphite material. This reduces feel, something that was not very desirable for ACCRA, who are especially known for smooth feeling shafts. Use of the AXIV weave was a perfect solution, allowing the strength levels to be reached while actually increasing feel.

“From the beginning we have had a mandate to use the best materials to create the product our customers desired, no matter the cost,” says Robertson. “The use of AXIV technology is just another way of not compromising, but of finding a way to produce a better product – one that addresses what the market demands.”

PGMC will debut three ACCRA with AXIV technology shaft models today to their dealers today in Florida at a special event prior to the annual PGA Merchandise Show. The XT, XC, and XE models mimic the three levels offered in the current ACCRA shaft line. Just got off the golf course and couldn't wait to email you!! That shaft is "the real deal"!!!! I put it in a Tmag 460TP head, 9.5 loft. I made it 45" and I put a STD size dual durometer grip on it. The club frequed out at 252 cpm's; which was perfect for me! I really couldn't wait to hit it; and I wasn't disappointed!! The 460TP before I reshafted it with the Accra, was a good 10 yds behind my 425TP, which is my default driver. But, the 460TP with the Accra shaft in it, flies the 425TP by a good 15 yds!!!! That means that I'm hitting the 460TP 20yds further than before the reshaft!!! WOW! I love the way the shaft launches the ball; it gets up quick and carry's forever! This shaft is awesome and guys should dump all their @#$%^^ crap and load up on the Accra!!! I can only imagine how great the Accra Axiv shafts are going to be!!!!! Anyway, thanks again for the shaft and I will do my part to pass the word about how great your shafts are!!!

I got your voice message back a couple weeks ago… I did receive my order and everything was good, I’ve made up 5 demos with good results I put an SC65 in an Ashton E3 10*, what a combo. When I’m swinging good it’s an absolute bomber. It’s been a long time since I’ve played a 370 yard hole driver L wedge. I put a Tour HF .370 in my 18* Maltby KE4 Hybrid and a Tour HF in my Ashton 3 wood. Both clubs had been in use with other shafts and both perform better (when my swing is good!!) than there previous configurations.

Well Gawain, good morning we are back from our trip to Hyde Mtn. in Sicamous with our men's league and Stuart Hendley. Stuart has asked to give you a little feedback about the shafts in his new clubs. I quote "OH MY GOD, these shafts are ridiculous. " He absolutely loves his new clubs. He was saying that the feel and ball flight is perfect and absolutely cannot wait to get out there and start ripping it up.

On Sunday's round he hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation and the 18th was only missed by 2 feet short on a front pin. He hit 8 greens inside 10 feet and finished only 2 shots off the course record, and as he says that was missing everything in terms of the putts. The greens were horribly slow as this was the opening weekend for the golf course. He said that in all the years that he has played golf he has never ever come anywhere near sniffing a course record this early in the season never mind doing it with a set of clubs that have never seen the light of day. He also said that he has never played with clubs that feel as consistent and controllable as these and considers his old clubs as junk in terms of technology and will now be used as door props for his garage.

I am a left handed golfer who is a “+” handicap recently I decided to start playing golf again after taking three years off from solid play. Well I noticed on my return that the 50+ crowd was starting to get closer and closer to my drives off the tee well I could not have that so I ran out and purchased one of these new 460CC drivers (actually multiple drivers but I digress) after using this driver I had a dilemma as a lefty I could not purchase my normal 7.5-8.0 degree loft anymore so I was forced to settle with a 9.5 degree club (the best I could get for a “LEFTY” no more custom molds for me… again I digress) Well the problem was I hit the same 270-280 yard drives except they would fly like my three wood. This would be a good thing if I was still playing competitive golf however I wanted raw distance and the fact that I was no longer considered a “bomber” in my normal foursome would just not do. So I went to my local Accra club fitter (Jack of Clubs/ Tom Murphy located in Clark, NJ best guy around BTW) and knowing my game he suggested the Accra SE X-Stiff shaft. Well needless to say it added about 40 yards due to the extra high kick point and extra stiffness and I am now the “big dawg” in my foursome again (which to me is very important). The best part about this shaft is it is weighted nicely for a high swing speed and it also has a flat/high ball flight they are not line drives as you will see with other “X-stiff” shafts. My ball flight now starts low and rises at about 230 yards and lands 70-90 yards later (perfect result).

The only shaft that even comes close to the SC 75 is the Speeder 757 but I you've even got them covered. My 580XD is so much more stable throughout the swing and at impact that I have confidence to shape shots and manipulate trajectory like I've never had. The launch angle is perfect, the ball holds the initial trajectory for what seems like forever, and even with the increase in carry distance the ball still runs out after landing (even in the swamp we call Louisiana). How a shaft so stable and low on torque can respond the way this one does is beyond me but it is awesome. The feel at impact is fantastic as well. I don't have any concrete numbers as far as distance gains or fairways hit numbers, but I can say without doubt that your product is every bit as good as advertised. As I expected, other golfers at the base are curious about it and may be switching to ACCRA soon.
